About

John-Paul is a full time professional photographer based in Nelson, New Zealand

John-Paul was born in 1970 near Bury in the north of England. From a very early age he always had a camera close to hand.

At the age of 18 he went to University College London to study Physics and it was at university he met Michael, a keen amateur photographer who invited him on a trip around South Africa and Botswana. The trip turned out to be an eye opener and John-Paul decided then he would aim to become a photographer.

After leaving university with a large overdraft John-Paul took a job writing computer software but he continued to improve his photography skills taking a photo journalism course in his spare time and developing and printing his photographs in a makeshift dark room (which doubled as the bathroom).

In 1996 John-Paul moved to New Zealand with his wife. He continued writing software (it paid rather well) and continued taking photographs.

In 2004 John-Paul was asked to move to Las Vegas by his company. As no right-minded person would leave New Zealand he decided it was time he took his photography more seriously and he set up his own business.

Not wanting to let his programming skills go to waste he also set up Light Limited and developed lightforsale.com as well as several other websites (including this one).

John-Paul now lives and works in Nelson, New Zealand with his wife and two children.

Portrait Photography

John-Paul is available for a range of portrait work including fashion, portfolio and commercial images but specialises in spontaneous, natural photographs of children. As well as ensuring that the finished photographs are of the highest quality, John-Paul always aims to make sessions themselves fun. More often than not, children don't want to go home !

Event Photography

John-Paul has been commissioned to photograph a wide range of events big and small including private parties, sporting events, shows and conferences. John-Paul has also photographed events for both Pet magazine and Bride and Groom magazine.

John-Paul takes great effort to be non-intrusive and his friendly, relaxed personable nature fits in well to any event.

Wedding Photography

On one of the most important days of your life you want to make sure that you've got the right photographer to record it John-Paul has taken the same non-obtrusive, journalistic approach that he takes for events and he has applied that to his wedding photography. It has often been reported that guests hadn't even realised there had been a photographer at the wedding until they had seen themselves on the official photographs.

Often the bride will spend more time with the photographer than anybody else throughout the wedding day. John-Paul's easy nature and experience will guide you throughout making it as un-stressful as possible and allowing you to get on and enjoy it !

Commercial Photography

Whether a person place or thing, John-Paul's understanding and experience of lighting and his ability to try something new will showcase your product to it's fullest potential.

John-Paul has photographed products for one off adverts and complete catalogues and can also utilise his design skills to create everything from brochures to websites.
